Wasted

Arts Co commissioned designer Ben Rousseau and Architect Ian Douglas–Jones to create a headline installation called “Wasted “for the world-renowned London Design Festival at the prestigious V&AMuseum.

It was designed to raise awareness on the amount of waste products being sent to landfill sites in the UK.

Using material that was being turned into luxury products by designers Elvis and Kresse, the two creatives engineered a structure representing strata in the ground as if the earth had been sliced open in hundreds of year’s time. It showed the layers of colored plastic and other materials that had been deposited in landfill.

A combination of old firehouses and tea sacks with tin foil-lined paper from old tea sacks were incorporated into the structure, so the environment became a beautiful jewel like shrine to what can be done with waste material.
